Join Our Staff!
The Saginaw Day Camp family prides itself on creating enriching memories for our campers and those moments start directly with our staff. Not only does working at Saginaw Day Camp allow you to provide amazing experiences for your campers, but you will be able to create life-long memories for yourself. Our success depends on the dedication and enthusiasm of a staff that is devoted to our campers’ safety, well-being, and growth.
If you love children, are energetic and spirited, love being outdoors, and are in search of a rewarding summer camp job — we want to meet you!
Head Counselors are adults with experience in education and working with children. They are the primary caregiver of the campers and will oversee that staff are correctly providing for the needs of each camper. Head Counselors will both mentor, train, and lead their staff as well as resolve conflicts and be a trusted resource for all campers.
Counselors and Junior Counselors are the “big brothers” and “big sisters” of their campers, and are responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of the campers in their group. Working in teams of two, Counselors and Junior Counselors typically supervise between 8 and 12 co-ed campers as they go about their daily summer camp activities. Counselors and Junior Counselors get to know their campers well and provide them with leadership, support, and guidance throughout the summer. Any group is led by at least one college-aged Counselor, and Junior Counselors going into 11th or 12th grade will have increased hands-on mentorship from their Head Counselor, ensuring they exhibit effective leadership skills.
Specialists are selected for their knowledge and experience in teaching specific activities, whether it be ropes course, instructional or free swim, tennis, or cooking. All specialists are certified (when applicable) in their activity, as well as trained in CPR/first aid.

Saginaw Day Camp is located on Saginaw Road in Oxford - about 10 minutes south of Route 1, and 15 minutes north of Newark, DE.
The Saginaw Day Camp day starts at 9:00am and ends at 4:00pm. Staff is expected to be at camp and ready and available to care for children from 8:45am to 4:15pm every Monday through Friday.
We offer extended care to our families wherein campers can be dropped off as early as 8:00am and stay as late as 6:00pm. Our counselors cover these hours on a rotating basis, with dinner provided to staff staying late.
Saginaw Day Camp staff members are required to wear staff shirts (that will be provided) on Mondays. On Fridays we often have “Theme” days and we strongly encourage all staff to dress according to the theme. Counselors must also be in socks, sneakers, and a respectable bathing suit every day.
You do not. Saginaw provides a full, hot lunch daily for campers and staff, along with a full salad bar, cold cereal & milk, peanut butter & jelly, and more.
We do require that all staff members submit a Physical Health form as well as standard tax and financial forms upon employment. Additionally, the Pennsylvania State Government has mandated specific background check policies for any employee that works with children (schools, day cares, camps, etc). All employees must complete three (3) separate background checks. These checks must now be completed by the employee, and all reports must then be sent on to the employer as proof of completion and clearance. All employees, even those under 17, as well as employees who have worked for Saginaw in the past, must complete these requirements.
Being on staff at Saginaw Day Camp is a full 9-week commitment. We do not offer time off for vacations and we have a two-day staff orientation prior to camp starting that is mandatory as well. However, working outside every day and providing a fun and safe environment for your campers is an exciting summer vacation in itself!
