Staff Positions

Head Counselors

Head Counselors are adults with experience in education and working with children. They are the primary caregiver of the campers and will oversee that staff are correctly providing for the needs of each camper. Head Counselors will both mentor, train, and lead their staff as well as resolve conflicts and be a trusted resource for all campers.

Counselors/Junior Counselors

Counselors and Junior Counselors are the “big brothers” and “big sisters” of their campers, and are responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of the campers in their group. Working in teams of two, Counselors and Junior Counselors typically supervise between 8 and 12 co-ed campers as they go about their daily summer camp activities. Counselors and Junior Counselors get to know their campers well and provide them with leadership, support, and guidance throughout the summer. Any group is led by at least one college-aged Counselor, and Junior Counselors going into 11th or 12th grade will have increased hands-on mentorship from their Head Counselor, ensuring they exhibit effective leadership skills.

“I worked at Saginaw Day Camp for almost six summers! Being a camp counselor is by far the best job I ever had. There’s no other place where you can swim, canoe, zip-line, play sports, tie-dye, make slime, etc. every day. Working at SDC feels like too much fun to be a job!”
